Also, I have a 4790k and I just took a stab in the dark and 1,23v volt vcore.After months of hype over Devil's Canyon, it seemed clear to us that the Core i7-4790K was meant to be an overclocking beast for enthusiasts.For reference, our 4770K hit a brick wall at 4.6GHz. Use Intel Extreme tuning utility stress test. I7-4790K oc to 4.9ghz on water Asus Z87 Maximus VI EXTREME 2X EVGA GTX 1080 FTW 8GB oc to 2.273 GHZ each EK Water cooling Loop 1220mm rads Dominator Platinum 16GB oc to 2400mhz EVGA 1600 P2 Platinum Samsung 850 500GB (boot) Samsung 840 250GB (games) OCZ Vertex 2 120gb (apps) WD caviar Black 2TB Seagate Barracuda 3TB Seagate Barracuda 4TB (x2)Prime 95 current version is cray.
We also reined in the 2400MHz memory to 1600MHz and 1866MHz while overclocking, albeit to no avail. After looking around, it seems almost everyone who has tested the 4790K so far has been limited to 4.7 - 4.8GHz as well.For the record, we tried both air and water cooling when overclocking the 4790K as well as Z97 boards from Asrock and Gigabyte. Intel's Australian PR company demanded to have the processor back within 7 days, so without a chance for future testing we weren't afraid to give the 4790K everything it could handle.The title says it all I want to overclock it as much as i can but be able to use it for along time, maybe 5 years LOL I know the 4770k should be 1.3v or under as a safe overclock, so what about the 4790K it has a boost clock of 4.4 anyways so i was thinking of 4.6ghz atleasT and would like to g.We forced dangerous voltage levels in an effort to stabilize the 4.8GHz overclock but no matter how much voltage we fed the chip our system would BSOD under minimal load.In our book 4.7GHz is a far cry from effortless 5GHz we were somewhat promised, and it's no better than what we have been able to do with the 4770K for quite some time. So now I have my i7 4790k running 4.7 at v1.262 Adaptive Voltage and it passes Real World Stress tests no problem.Unfortunately, I may have to take Piednoel up on his course in Devil's Canyon overclocking because our review sample wouldn't budge past 4.7GHz at 1.36v and it wasn't for a lack of trying. Remember v1.262 is the voltage that Adaptive Voltage kept giving me no matter what I put in those parameters.
